About Us

We are three long-term friends who decided to turn our love of Madagascar travel into a family business. Patrick is a dynamic tour leader with over 10 years experience with hikers, campers, honeymooners, researchers, and more. Haja is a hyper-competent jack-of-all-tourism-trades who can solve pretty much any problem. Gabrielle is an anthropologist and educator dedicated to teaching the world about the island. Together, we make Madagascar come alive for our clients.

Maniry Custom Travel is our passion project. At MCT, we do travel differently. We noticed that many visitors only saw parks and protected areas, and only interacted with Malagasy people as guides or hotel staff. They left with little or no knowledge of Malagasy society. But we know the immense richness of Malagasy culture -- richness we want to share with our clients. So we offer travelers precious intercultural connection through unique immersion in Malagasy village life and education about Malagasy customs. Our goal is to help travelers holistically discover the island's magic and complexity while giving back to our communities.

We designed our tours to maximize intimate exploration of an other-worldly place. All our tours are small groups with ample options for personalized itineraries and educational insights from Dr. Gabrielle. Thanks to our wide network of regional connections, many tours also offer oppotunities to discover Malagasy traditional ceremonies and village events alongside visits to stunning protected areas. You will travel with experienced, English-speaking professionals hand-picked by our leadership team to ensure a safe and life-changing time in Madagascar. Our tours perfectly balance reverence for Madagascar's beautiful landscapes with discovery of its amazing cultural life.

We care deeply about Malagasy communities, so a portion of company proceeds support several local villages as they recover from devastating cyclones. We rebuild schools, provision clinics, and ensure adequate food supplies for communities at the climate change frontlines.  We thank our clients for helping make a difference.
